Lieutenant Laura Webb was a police officer on the edge. Having lost her lover, she poured everything she had into the job, including her off duty time and any personal life she might have had, trying to forget her loss. The job became her life, that and her time at the bar where she drank to forget.
Although she couldn’t see it, everyone else around her could—including the department psychologist—and, when a bust goes bad, she is ready to crack. Rather than lose her, her Captain forces her to take some time off.
She has a lot of time on her hands, therefore, when Ray Price, a friend from high school, calls to invite her to Lake Tahoe. With no reason not to, she goes to Lake Tahoe with her friend, Gene, to see what Price wanted.
But things aren’t as they seem in Lake Tahoe, and she is drawn into the seedy underbelly of the town when she falls for the local brothel’s madam. Can she find out who is murdering people in Lake Tahoe before she also falls victim to the killer? And, more importantly, will she be able to figure out how to navigate her passions, which have suddenly awoken again?
